The following 15 photos of the ruins of castle Neu Falkenstein have been taken in the swiss Jura mountains near Balsthal, 40 km to the south of Basle.

The first 3 photos have been taken in winter. The following 12 photos have been taken in autumn.

The castle is situated above Sankt-Wolfgang near Balsthal. Parts of it are more than 1000 years old. It has been destroyed by an earthquake in the XIVth century, rebuilt, destroyed again at the end of the XVIIIth century in the years of the french revolution. The best preserved part of the castle is the keep.

In the old time the castle Neu-Falkenstein has been the property of the Bishop of Basle for some time. It was also the property of the Canton Solothurn. Nowadays it belongs to a preservation association.

The Jura mountains are stretching from the north-west of Switzerland, the region of Basle, out to the south-west, the region of Geneva, along the border with France.
