More about
digital photo enhancement
The following statements do not only apply for scenery wallpaper, but for any digital or digitized photograph.
Scanned photos or slides often need some careful enhancement handling afterwards. Some directly shot digital pictures too.
For the demanding eye, a little bit more contrast or a slight shift of the brightness is sometimes necessary.
The most important rule here, is "Don't give it too much of it".
The target of the task can be described as follows:
the picture should reach from real black in the darkest zones of the image to white in the lightest zones of the image.
In deed it is better to stay just a little bit below these ideals.
The risk is that, if going too far, the contrast will look very hard and overall, you will lose details that were present before.
Because you will not only push the darkest pixels down to real black,
but probably also some pixels that were slightly above the darkest ones. This nuances will be destroyed.
The same applies for shifting the lightest zones toward white.
Two possibilities exist to enhance scenery wallpaper.
Either using one of the numerous photo viewers and editors
or using a high end graphic software.
Of course, a minimum quality of the original is necessary.
It will never be possible to get a wonderfully nuanced image from a very bad original.
1st Possibility for enhancement of scenery wallpaper, the image viewers and editors.
Some of these programs have very convenient photo enhancement features.
Sometimes even automatic correction functions.
When I have to choose between manual, semi-automatic and automatic correction functions, I mostly prefer the semi-automatic way.
The fully manual way is often too time consuming because of long try and error actions.
The result may nevertheless not be the best.
Simply because it needs some "pointing the way" support that the semi-automatic tools will give you.
The fully auomatic enhancement functions on the other hand, will often NOT give the expected result.
The only choice with them is to accept what they produce or to go another way.
The page about digital photo enhancement
at the digital photo software guide gives many details and advices on this subject.
I recommend you to have a look there.
2nd Possibility for enhancement of scenery wallpaper, the high end graphic software packages
like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop Elements.
With them, manual enhancement and semi automatic enhancement are possible.
It is especially convenient if you use specialised plugins like Color Washer.
Both products, Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop Elements accept plugins.
Some words about batch processing software like EyeBatch or Photo Cleaner.
With batch processing software you can apply the same treatment to a bunch of photos automatically.
This is a good solution to resize, sharpen and compress your photos.
It is less advisable to enhance exposure and contrast or for geometrical corrections, because each photo may need a different treatment.
Photo Cleaner is an exception, since it will adapt its exposure and contrast enhancement to each photo even it does it in batch.
Since it is a fully automatic enhancement, you may or may not get the expected result, like I wrote above.
It can nevertheless be convenient if you get good results for a majority of your photos.
Then you need only to enhance a small part of them one by one with another tool.

digital photo enhancement
at the digital photo software guide.
Important advice: Always keep the original stored somewhere, even if it looks bad!
Because corrections may often lead to lose nuances, especially hardly visible nuances.
By keeping the original, you will be able to treat it again later with a different or better software.
