resolution film scanner

A part of the landscape photos, you can see in the galleries were taken with a classic camera (not a digital one) many years ago.  At the page Scenery photography you can read which different cameras I did use in the past.

While using "classic" cameras, I made nearly exclusively slides.  Theoretically, the slides have a better resolution than my digital camera.  But the former digital versions of my good old slides are of poor quality compared to the digital shots.  All these wallpapers stemming from slides will progressively be replaced with high resolution scans.

Earlier, to get the digital version of my slides,  I did put them on a large screen with the slide projector and took photos with my digital camera.  I was never satisfied with the result.

At least, two main reasons why the results were bad:
Slide-projectors mostly have a bad optic that does not well distribute the light intensity all over the surface of the slide.  Thus the digital picture will show a strong vignetting effect.
Projection screens have a structure, either they are woven or their surface is covered with small glas pearls.  This lets the digital image look very grainy.

If you want to scan slides (or negatives), I recommend you to use a high resolution slide scanner or film scanner.  I specially recommend you to choose a model with ICE technology.

In short, ICE technology is a hardware feature that additionally scans the film with infrared light to detect dust and scratches  and eliminate them.  It will save you a lot of time, because correcting dust and scratches manually with a photo editor is very time-consuming.

Scanning slides or scanning negatives is nearly the same task.  The only difference is that when scanning negatives your scanner software will additionally invert the colors of the negatives.

What I can recommend you NOT to do, is scanning slides with a flat bed scanner. They just are inadequate for this task. Even if they have a high resolution, it's a high resolution for a letter format, not for a slide.  Yes, some have special accessories and mirrors, but don't expect to get a good 1600 x 1200 (or above) scan of a slide with them...

Another reason is that flat bed scanners never implement ICE technology and probably never will.

Presently, all the poor looking wallpapers have already been re-scanned with a high resolution film scanner  and the replaced wallpapers are not comparable at all with their former version.
